Broken computer
Ok this problem is my friends computer. I can't seem to find any way to fix it. Maybe gott can help. I can only get into safe mode. Windows mode mostly doesn't load, but when it does it's stuck on the background screen. When safe mode is able to open, opening anything including putting in the restore cd will cause explorer to reset and ask to be in safe mode. I can not open anything in safe mode or it'll freeze and I'll have to close dr watson and it'll reload safe mode. The only lead I have on this is that iexplorer will keep opening and closing. I can't even load my external or flash to load programs.

do safe mode with command prompt, was the drivers and shit are loading they will apeear on the screen.. tell me what it hangs on... i bet its mupsys..
|
exactly, it hangs on that one the mupys or whatever, I noticed that when I loaded all three safe modes. I thought it wasn't right.

how does one attain such a state of crap uselessness?

lol yea i still do...i've tried searching but nothing exactly matches what i'm talking about
when i try to load the restore cd it won't do anything...i can't open my computer...if i try to load the cd using cmd prompt it'll start and it'll reset explorer and bring back to the part where it says if you want to restore to an earlier time hit no blah blah blah i don't know what else to do |
ok this sounds dumb but do it
go into your bios, find out the maker and revision, see if there is a later version of an update, and reflash your bios another thing to try is unload mup.sys from the bootup by going to the recovery console and typing "disable mup" if you do this and it works, DO NOT Install MS service pack 2 for XP.. this POS has broken more installs than i care to mention. |
how would i reflash the bios if there is a later version? and what recovery console?
|
updating bios is out of the question...it needs to scan my computer, me to call in or fill out a bullshit form...it's phoenix bios...ok so what recovery console are we talking about? i can't really open anything except through cmd prompt or through the task manager...even then somethings can't open
|
why do you people even have computers..Jeez....anyhoos
here yer go http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654 Do this and all shall be well .. |

well it just so happens i can't open the d drive using command prompt. It will close explorer as it tries to open and restart explorer giving me a window talking about safe mode. I've tried using my external and flash drive.

the next step in this will be making your flashdrive into a bootable device with the cd drivers to get the damn thing to boot if none of this works and you cannot get to the recovery console - do a reinstall of XP, it will replace the OS but keep the other data on it |
no floppy...its on a laptop...i cant even reinstall xp...it wont open the cd drive...but maybe after i change the boot on the bios

you mean it wont open the drive bay or read the drive thus assigning it a drive letter? |
changing the boot on the bios worked...but uhh putting in the cd was ok...the part that was troublesome is that if i tried to use cmmd prompt to open the drive to read the disk caused explorer to close...no autorun and opening and folder restarted explorer...but it's ok, fixed it thanks
|
alright now i have an issue with my vaio...it's not really something big yet, but lets see, I can't use scan disk or it'll crash my explorer, nor can i use it in cmd prompt nor before windows starts....secondly i can't use safe mode and that hangs around mup.sys...nothing else is wrong though...but i need safe mode eventually and i don't really care about scandisk just wondering if there is a fix
|
uninstall the last xp updates you install or use the recovery option to go back a few days
|
but this happened a while ago, i just never thought it was needed, but incase i want to fix it now...so i don't think recovery to the bast couple days and i dunno which updates to uninstall since there has been many since it started
