Unplanned Upgrade and Refit.
 

So yesterday I leave around 3 pm and I'm walking through Pacific Mall with my bud and we're passing all the computer parts store. Now we get to talking about super builds and godlike systems of unrivaled performance, basically his dream machine. I start running the numbers and names of people through my head and I realize I could do this. So I started calling in favors.

This was my old machine I bought/built 8 months ago: Viper Mk. 2

Now my old system was still pretty good and hadn't given me much trouble. But I figured meh why not? It only cost me less then 650 dollars.

Now I'm gona give my old computer to my brother and my brother's computer can go to my mom. Just so it doesn't seem like I don't care about my sister I'm buying her a 300 gig hard drive.

i can run Source games easily over 100fps, but now its getting to the point that Source doesn't even matter that much. There are so many games that are coming out that my system won't even run good, pretty rediculous if you ask me

Well, last Saturday During an attempt to over clock my shit... ahem ... I blew my new processor T_T Luckily I can return it for a new 1 no questions asked :D While I was at it I swapped my MSI motherboard for an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. Cost 50 dollars more then the MSI and I comes with a nifty remote control so I can turn my computer on even if I'm across the street ^.^ Not to mention built in wifi *I really don't know why they added such a thing for a tower motherboard* and my ATI connection came through and its crossfire time bizitches.

A few more days of down time and I'll be back to pound your tight little bumholes like a prairie dog on a squirrel drunk on Lakeport.

dod is CPU limited, meaning you won't see any performance increase going from like a Geforce3 to a Radeon X1950XT. The only upgrades that matter to dod currently are the processor speed, FSB speed, and/or RAM. Of these a CPU upgrade would be the most effective.

What concerns me is that such a blazing fast computer takes 55 seconds from POST to desktop. That seems a little slow actually. You sure you have all your BIOS settings straight?

Right now I don't have a cpu, I'm taking it to tiger direct tonight to test *I'm using my brother's com* I'm reusing my old ide harddrives and my windows os is a mess need to tiddy it up. My computer as is is in parts strewin across my basement lab. I should really buy some sata drives and image everything over, but then I have 2 ide drives that would only slow down my computer if I slapped them in. So I think I'll turn them into external usb drives. I bought a all in one external usb 2.0 enclosure about a year ago so it should be fine if I'm just using it for storage.

It never was about increasing the performance of dod, it run just fine in the past. I bought all this shit for shits and giggles cause I wanted it = P lofl I wouldn't blow 700 dollars on a game from 2000.
