Getting a New Server Tommorow.
 

Hello AvaMods! I have been looking into getting a server for a good while now. My current clan just crashed, lots of probs with other Admins, they where too lazy and eventually quit altogether. Plus leader abandoned us leaving me with all responsibility, but zero control over server and site ;)

Well, one other clan mate and I say we have had enough and after discussing it for 2 weeks decided to start a new clan and run it properly.

I thought I had a lot of good ideas for the new server, however, after finding AvaMods a couple of days ago, I relized I was aiming very low lol. You guys rock! I love the mods you have i.e. tackling and weapons jams.

I was hoping that you can help this noob get his server set up and on its way with a few mods in place and how to's. I have never ran a server save for admin in-game and I really have no idea what to do. I have been trying to learn, however, the instructions where written for people with an advanced degree in computer tech!



Anywho, I belive if I add you as a reference when getting a new server yall get a discount. That will be my undying thanks if you can help me out.

What site do I need to go to to get a server in which you will benifit?


What to do from there?:
What happens when I buy it? What are the steps I need to do to do the following:

1. Make it so that it works.
2. What important must have plug-ins do i need?

3. How do i add my friend to Admin

4. Adding these mods
a. Start 80% health
b. Changing weapons i.e. 2 slots for bazooka, 1 mg, no snipers, etc.
c. How do I download and install one your mods such as weapons jam (should be able to know how to do rest after that)
5. Changing beginning logo and music intro.

6. Are there any other important things I should know and how do I do them?

Do you have any prior experience in configuring/running a game server?.

if you cannot understand the basics written in tech form, then give up now. or pay someone to do it

Really who knows if I will need help or not since I have yet to actually buy the server, however, just browsing through Gameservers.com forums I have seen almost every person have trouble with something. And you know what, if I cannot do it, I could pay, but Id rather at least have a good idea of how it works so that I could fix future bugs or whatever.

(Unfortunately I do not have ANY computer techy guys around me, Im in the military and far away from home and a few people I know who could do this with no problem)

Thanks for deciding to help. If or when I choose to pay someone to do it for me would you be interested? Most of the plug-ins I want come from YOU guys lol. And the others I could probably find before you even start.

if you actually have a decent community to start the server with.. go for it . if not have fun having a pretty empty server.. rip cMen server

i used game servers, same as avamods does. Tech support is very helpful and the online forums they have tought me ALL the basics about setting up the server and running it. If u really cant grasp the concept of running the server by reading post on their forums and their tutorials then well you know :P

As for the mods, depends on wut admin program you chose (admin mod or amxx mod) from there u then join their forums and read up. took me about a week or 2 to get my server to wut i wanted with the mods, settings, etc...

so yea choose wut u want and what they have to offer. And just be prepared to read up alot and you'll be able to grasp it

ALL those questions u asked can be found all on the game servers site and forums. Same with the MODs u wanna add, their site there forums.

ps. dont jump right into "omg i need the this mod that mod, change the loading music blahblah blah" there were quite a few mods i wasn't able to get up and running. just get the basic server up and running, get to know your ftp and wut each folder has.

i knew nothing about running and maintaining a server, im no high tech computer guy. im a average 20 yr old who learned all of it from read.

but i would reccomend getting metamod-p up (1.19p32 is latest)

the install for that is very simple and anyone should be able to handle that lol..

then put AMXmodX on.. the install for that is pretty simple but it confuses alot of people.. but remember when you do that to also download and install the mod package as well as the base

OK great. I was really worried most about the first step (metamod-p. I have didnt see a walkthrough tutorial on it before and was worried I would not know how to do it. But since you say its very easy, that is prolly why there isnt a tutorial lol.

I went to Barnes and Noble to try and find a How to For Dummies but couldnt find anything. I just want everything perfect.



I already have buddies lined up to give my server some play time everyday so I should be able to keep it populated everyday until recruitment starts flowing. I learned a lot in my last clan and I know that running a succesful clan takes a ton of work. Even though I was a co-leader, the leader must not control every aspect of the show because when he left, we died. There was nothing I could do to save it. My new clan is ran by 2 of us. He is actually the techy type whereas im the more organizing type. But he is already very busy with the site and forums and I want to take some burden off him.

Honestly, to get the server up and running. is easy, u dont need to do anything. Addin yourself and others as admins is easy also. Gameservers has a pretty easy control panel to use right from your account to edit most of your needs for the server

I went to AMX MOD X and first installed the full install and Addon DOD. I worked around with the tutorials and realized that some options where not listed in my package, i.e. Adding Admin.

So I downloaded the Base files and now I get the options and have had a pretty easy time doing all the ends and outs using the tutorials.


I just bought the server and it is currently installing. Im using this time to read up on Mani Mod because I think I have to get this. Tell me if I do not need it lol, I will wait for someones reply.

I know this isnt the corrct forum, but I am having troubles with Plugins. I copy pasted your weapons jam dwnload into the AMX Mod X\files\dod\addons\amxmodx\scripting directory. Then I add its name into the mxmodx\configs\plugins.ini. diriectory. However, The tutorial says that I will need to Compile the CSA file into a AMXX file. It says to use the compile.exe program which I do not have. Is this a separate download?

ohh well i was confused then lol..

metamod and amxx are for non-source only.. tho there is a MetaMod Source and the amxx equivalent is SourceMod

tho i believe SourceMod might still be a beta, not sure.. None of the plugins here will work on source based mods tho...

i cant really help with any of that stuff since i dont have a source server.. i did however once install metamod source & sourcemod on a dod source server.. but no idea how i did it and i was actually amazed it even worked cause i didnt have any idea what i was doing (was my 1st time working with a source engine ds)

ive never installed or used mani so i cant say anything on that..tho i would imagine if you were to use both mani and sourcemod that there might be some conflicts.. maybe not idk lol..

sorry lol.. but all i can really say now is to read the documentation for whatever you plan to go with as they usually have pretty simple and easy to follow installation instructions.. or check their specific forums for more help.. :-\

wait, whats the difference form source and non-secure?

Im using whatever gameservers.com offered. And when I installed AMX MOD X I went through the ftp addy.


Plus I still have 3 days to get a refund. Would you be willing to take a look at it Diamond? Also, you never answered on if you would be willing to create it for pay. I see that you have a ton of experience and I would trust you more than some of those gameserver forum guys who bash people for not understanding the workings.

If u have DoD:source, i had a CS:source server and ran Mani admin, it was reallyyy easy to use in game, big font, easy menu's to follow, etc...

so wait do u have a dod source or dod 1.3 :s

Just an update on progress, I finally changed the config server.cgf file. I was doing it wrong for the first day (I was editing instead of transferring it to computer, alting text, then uploading back.).

Now Im torn on which way to go, I tried to install AMX MOD X 1.74b. I clicked auto installer, used ftp address, changed mod to DODS, then hit connect. It connected, but I do not think I got what I was supposed to get because the tutorial had something else pictured. I just got the usual directory I get when using ftp. Is this right? Do I install the mods from there? Would that mean I would download AMX MOD 1.74b, DOD Addon, and base, then put them all in the same folder?

Well thats freakin gay lol. OK then, how would I get a non-secure server for DODS? AMX plugins are WAY better! This is HS.

if you have access to the command line (probably not) you'd remove the -secure entry, otherwise you'd have to ask the host to turn of vac & make it insecure
