I have tried a bunch of different tests, and have learned that

A) these two thing should not badly lag your game
B) they do

Acording to the stats provided by both Yahoo and Steam, there should not be many issues, but there ARE. I suspect it has much to do with yahoo Messenger using IE to run and reload constant ads.

If you have serious lag issues, make sure that you not running the new overbloated BS self updating Yahoo.

Other IM programs do not seem to have this issue. I have tried Skype, AIM, Trillian running in AOL, Yahoo, ICQ. The new Yahoo Messenger wrecks the game unless you have invested a ton of loot into your PC, and I have a safe full of guns that says I need the $ more for powder , primers, and lead.
