I bet. The average streetfighters stands virtually no chance against anyone who's seriously engaged in open-minded muay thai. Considering it's designed to be destructive and not artistic. Most people don't realize how devastating the lever|contact action of the shin -> inner|outer thigh or shin -> knee can be. Couple that with hard hitting elbows and solid rib shattering knees and any foolish "thug" drops in a matter of moments.

If I remember correctly, they practice on banana trees. Or any such similar tree that has some type of give. You try to kick a 500 year old redwood down and see where it gets you ;0 The objective, of course, is to destroy the nerves in the shin as well as build up extra protection. Amusingly, thailand has the highest rate of shin cancer in the world. Go figure.
