somethings stamping on your intranets..I dont know your level of computer know how. so ill explain..

when you connect to games server you dont get a direct connection, you go allover the place first (normally the fastest route as per your ISP's routing tables), so somewhere in all that mess there is a line problem or something is hogging the bandwidth.

How the server affects your ping is a myth (unless its really overloaded) is really not true.. your ping is decided between you and the end host and all the crap in between :)

same goes for tracert.. the server in the real world is less that 75 miles away from me, how ever, if I do a visual traceroute it appears to be over 200 miles away just because of all the crap that I am routed thro.

there is really no easy way or explaining pings and tracert without going all nerdy

ProjectPat June 15th, 2007 01:23 PM

this sucks its a friday and everyones on.

i need to play NOW

mein gott June 15th, 2007 01:33 PM

turn yer comp off, the turn your cable or DLS modem off and 10 seconds later back on, give it 5 minutes to re-provision then turn your comp on

coltron June 15th, 2007 03:46 PM

Jonny Automatic June 15th, 2007 06:27 PM

mr goat, could you say why my internet may stop working Almost completely?
skype and steam ect. all carry on functioning with internets.. but my web browsers wont. then after restarting the router (30 seconds off) and sometimes restarting computer will allow browsers to work again.

ProjectPat June 15th, 2007 06:42 PM

try reinstalling your browser, sound like it may have been hijacked, do you have any spyware finders?.. if you use IE, install firefox, of it works fine, then IE is messed up.

im assuming your mean your own router, im talking about the one that comes from the ISP.. or is that it? also try this, in the browser type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.100.1, these are the default addresses for the routers, sometimes they show a log and you can see any issues

ProjectPat June 15th, 2007 09:49 PM

i had to call my ISP, reset then reboot the modem. im all good.

but just for others that are having the giant ping problem and nothings working i think they should try that

Jonny Automatic June 16th, 2007 12:17 AM

I use firefox, and its allways done it... It has happened every time after my 3 formats too.
its not just me who gets this neither btw
downstairs the other computer does it too, and if either computer's interwebs stops working, both do.

mein gott June 16th, 2007 11:31 PM

open a command box ( start, run type cmd, press enter) in the black box type ping www.google.com and hit enter.. make a note of the MS ping return time.

one that has done, do this

type netstat -a, if you can do a screen grab of all ports that have a address, it will something like this
------------------------------------
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>netstat -a

coltron June 17th, 2007 12:23 PM

yea i was just gonna say that .be addy and the .pl are not legit. spybot or mwav will take care of that probably.

ProjectPat June 17th, 2007 12:25 PM

ok I tried that mwav thing, but I couldnt find a way round the buy' system so i used adaware instead :P looks a bit more porn free now :D

mein gott June 18th, 2007 01:20 PM

did adaware find anything and dont forget to use the check for updates function and so get ccleaner, install it use it

diamond-optic June 18th, 2007 01:58 PM

a list/screenshot of running processes & startup items (and no not just startup folder on start menu.. all of it, like registry stuff.. run/runonce etc etc) might shed some more light on it all..

Jonny Automatic June 18th, 2007 02:52 PM

adaware found like 50-60 things and 40ish were the "non harmful" thingies...
and I dont know where to find startup jazz..

theres a lot of processes here ...
I cut out my name so you can see what it sys/whatever faster

BuLLeT June 18th, 2007 06:23 PM

yea 54 processes are alot to be running, i got 29 running on mine. to stop them google each process and see if its important or not, just by scanning throu quickly i can see at least 5 that can be stoped

diamond-optic June 18th, 2007 07:44 PM

ya that is a lot of processes.. but ya.. i see a bunch that arent really needed and i recognize from removing them on my pc..

and like bullet said.. searching for the process name on google will turn up a ton of results saying what it is, what programs use it, if its really needed at all.. and how to remove them (tho alot of sites now seem to no longer have info for removing them cause they want you to buy their lame ass programs to do it..)

HiJackThis would probably be able to remove some of them easily too... but if your not careful you can remove things that you need with it.. lol

download

if you want.. post the log or a screen shot of what that finds as it might make things a bit more obvious as to whats bad since it will show the filepath...

damn... that was the program i forgot to reinstall after i reformatted last

also Crapcleaner has a start up option to delete SOME of those processes.
But yea my ping on my laptop today has just randomly went up too, i herd some ISP'sare having issues in my region...

coltron June 18th, 2007 11:05 PM

spybot has an advanced process manager.

ucubed June 18th, 2007 11:07 PM

google turn off unwanted services or something along those lines...itll help with conserving ram...faster bootup and etc as well

Jonny Automatic June 23rd, 2007 03:36 PM

well all of those things are used by either windows itself/Ati/creative/AVG/programs like 3dsmax, wacom tablet ...ect... so nothing I should worry about... besides my machine speed isnt a problem...
