Default Internet Cybersecurity

OMG it's internet-Katrina! Jay Rockefeller's S773, S778; This piece of trash legislation introduced would allow Obama, if he declared it necessary, to turn off the internet in the US. Just completely shut down all new information on the web during a "crisis" to protect our infrastructure.

yea i learned from these... that they are really vaguely worded. and make the conspiracy nuts think up tons of things. like that voluntary one i posted. how it wouldnt let you create protests, or push political/religous views on people. when it really was saying "If youre part of a group that cleans up a beach, you cant use that groups fundings and people to push religous beliefs on others"

I feel its gonna be like the patriot act. How many of your lives changed after that was passed? You shouldn't be worried about it unless you have something to hide. As for the shutting down part. That's not gonna happen even if there was another terrorist attack. What logic is behind that? Oh Noes the terrorist cant IM their plans to each other, they gotta use cellular phones and fax machines.

edit: that youtube link kinda loses my respect when i see in their favorited videos things such as "Bush Vs. Hitler", "The Obama Deception" and "Obama's Cult"

lol @ the youtube link. I dont think anyone's worried about this, just sharing my thoughts on it.

I agree there's a lot of misinformation out there, but I'm not a fan of the rockefellers. So many people around the world are able to express their opinions about news or topics in general very easily. To shut it down because it's a security risk just doesnt make sense. I realize there's no such thing as privacy anymore, but the idea behind the patriot act and legislature like this is just a step in the wrong direction if you ask me. To give the government any form of control over the internet leads to other things like censorship; ie Australia.

Yea.. i hope that this would not lead to censorship. For some reason peoples individual views can get censored but a religions views cannot. I just hope Al Gore doesnt run again, Tipper Gore as the first lady would be a hell hole towards censorship, and ofcourse his green ass. Mrs. Obama i have no idea about though, i should look into that but...

From what I've read he would just have control over federal agency internet. It's also strongly opposed and some changes will need to be made before it's passed.

Quote:
(1) shall have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access;

(B) a plan that encompasses all aspects of national security, including the participation of the private sector, including critical infrastructure operators and managers;
(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;

I could be wrong, but it sounds like it would apply to every major ISP in the US.

(a) DESIGNATION.—The Department of Commerce shall serve as the clearinghouse of cybersecurity threat and vulnerability information to Federal government and private sector owned critical infrastructure information systems and networks.

yea seems to be only targeted at Federal government and private sectors (federal reserver, UN) networks.
