so the time has finally come.. if you wish to play avamods one last time nows your chance


server will go down on the 26 or 27th i believe (actually not quite sure on the exact date) so theres only a couple days left to experience what no other server ever has or ever will have.


and I took down the link on the main page for making donations, but if you somehow happen to find the link on your own, DO NOT DONATE thinking the server will stay up, it wont and your money will just be thrown away


I'll be making a more formal post in a few days probably, theres a lot to say and alot of emotions involved, and it will take some time and thought for me to get it out. I just wanted to make a quick post about it tho for anyone who might wish to go on the server while you still can..

I'll probably be showing up on the server at some point as well, whether theres people on it or not... Get ahold of me on steam/aim/msn/here/whatever if you want to play together (as I probably will never play dod again after the server goes down)

For me especially i think its hard to say , the time has come. I loved every second of it and hope we can start some where else. Thanks for everything Diamond aswell as you other mongrols;).

Long time no see my old compadres.....Dont ask me why but I decided to check into the forums and I notcied this thread. All I will say is this. DoD was my 1st time playing a online game. Avamods was the 1st server I came to play on. Dia you opened up a whole new world to me and online gaming. This is one big thankyou to you Eric.

even though my cdrive/avamods time was over many years ago, i would probably cry if the server shut down.

my favourite part about the server was 'hanging out' with the people in it. the game is fun, but the community is what i liked best.

i love how the roots of my internet gaming life are still alive. some of the core players are still here. *cough*you are my first and favourite online 'friends'. myself and dan will gladly pay whatever it takes to keep this going.

probably sounds pretty gay.. but theres just no way to really put into words what all this has been for me. ive tried to come up with some shit to say about it all, but its just not really possible and if i tried it would probably be the longest thing ive ever written in my life.. and i know that none of you can read all that well nor would want to read that much lol, so idk if ill even bother with anything like that


but it truly is the end of an era in my life (well i guess it really ended a year or two ago for the most part for me).. i really loved this game, all the way back to the very first beta, never really played any other game that i felt this way about and probably never will again

shit, ill probably never play it again after this.. or even use my 5 dig account again either


and god damn, stats say over 280,000 ppl came on the server... over a quarter of a million ppl experienced shit that i created and worked on.. pretty trippy if you ask me lol


and the core few of you that have stuck it out here from the beginning of avamods, and even more so from before that with cdrive (i dont think i knew any of you in the time prior to cdrive tho).. thru the good times, and the bad times.. i appreciate it.. many great memories and some hilarious times thats for sure lol and you all probably dont even know half of the shit that went on lol'

And that's the end of that. The curtains are closed, lights are off, and the cleaning man got laid off. Incredible performance. Think about what's happened over the past 10 years. 10 years! That's insane.

It all started with counter-strike, bleh, but it got me into playing small maps. Then I found day of defeat and avalanche was an obvious choice. 8 person dod server off my home connection did the trick. It exploded when we switched the spawn points. Sim and I started cdrive, good ole cal days. Then, diamond-optic joined with magical super powers of uncanny proportions and ambition. Still, this is the best online community that's existed that had the best administrators out there.

This server basically created my life. I'm not sure why I wanted to host a server. I didn't even know what server meant. I just saw this thing you can download and run on a computer and people can connect to it through a number. Then I realized you could go to college for something like this and my first job after college was managing 40 servers, because I already had the skills from running dod and the website. I can't thank day of defeat enough, and especially people like hawkeye and buck. Isn't that messed? lol. I love the internet.

Even though I wasn't active in the end, this felt like the end of my beginning on the net. The fact that day of defeat as a whole is still running is nuts. Old technology will eventually die, but the name lives on forever!

when it comes down to it, credit really goes to you... if i hadnt come across cdrive none of this stuff would have ever happened. you taught me all sorts of stuff about modding the map files, something I had no idea about (and i dont think anyone really knew about back then) ...that got the ball rolling, then you let me run wild with the ideas I had at the time.. never imagined, or intended, for things to end up anywhere near how things went over the years following that

Yeah what they dont realize is that the only reason the server closed is because none of us fucking play dod anymore mainly bc its old and shitty and the userbase has gone down the toilet

Yep.. diamond, Pope, I really appreciate the work and time you guys put into it. I've been playing since the earlier cdrive days under another steam ID. This was the only server in dod I can say the admins actually gave a fuck and had common sense. Very cool, laid back environment. Lots of good times. Thank you guys.

well at least i dont have to get raped by worst anymore....

ohh gosh i miss it already :(. the games too slow without meth. and all the other fun mods! i think using meth has made me more of an impatient person irl.

meth was the fast forward for boring parts of dod. Taking the walk after spawn on any map except orange/ava is like.. i\'d rather stick my hand in a blender.
